Biography

Sherry McKay has many years of experience in nursing. Her emphasis has been in Gerontology and psychiatric nursing. Her experience has been in acute, long term, and home health care. She started her own company Continuing Education Services that provided consultation and continuing education offerings to nursing facilities throughout the state of Iowa.

Sherry graduated with a diploma in nursing from Saginaw General Hospital School of Nursing, received her BSN from Iowa Wesleyan College, and an MSN, Geriatric Nurse Practitioner from the University of Iowa. She coordinates the Adult/Geriatric Program at the University of Iowa College of Nursing as well as maintaining a clinical practice in the Geriatric Assessment Clinic and a Nursing Home Teaching Practice.

Research interests include evaluation of the Nursing Home Teaching Practice as well as depression with caregivers of significant others with Dementia. In conjunction with data collection, she co-authored the article titled "Hospital Care of Patients with Combined Medical and Psychiatric Illness on the Medical Psychiatric Unit" published in Psychosomatics.

She is president of the Iowa Nurse Practitioner Society and a member of Sigma Theta Tau.
